#339 ~ Book 30
Every time my friends travel to a different country or city, they always come back with a book for me. I'll have to admit that it's not without nagging from my part. I got my very first Neal Stephenson from Dee when she went to the UK last month.
It's been a good reading year for me. In 2010, I only managed to read 2 books. It's funny that I started this reading challenge because I wanted to get myself a Kindle, and now that I'm at the end of it, I don't think I want or need one as much anymore. There's still a lot of the books I've hoarded these past few years that need reading, and I can't wait to get to them.
Things I've gotten from this reading challenge:
* I'm more sci-fi than fantasy.
* I've outgrown my Harry Potter obsession.
* My books get beaten up after I'm done with them: annotations, dog-ears, post-it notes, drawings, etc. I should probably not borrow books from other people.
* I read an average of 60 pages per day.
* I can't do speed-reading because I read as a writer.
* I find (auto)biographies boring, even when it's someone I'm really interested in.
* Writing style means more to me than plots.
* I've acquired an average of about 30 books per year in the past 5 years, whether I bought it, or it was given to me by someone else.
This feels like such an accomplishment. I shall reward myself by hieing myself off to Virgin and buying myself another book. Any recommendations?
Oh, and add me on Goodreads, too.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith.
