#117 ~ Book 9
I'm playing ketchup with my books! W00t!
Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre
First of all, that's such a kickass author name.
I wish I could say the same for the actual book. While it was interestingly written in a voice that is not very common - that of a 15-year-old boy in Texas, I found it was mostly annoying. The story tells of this boy being wrongly accused of a mass murder, and how he refused to give up the one piece of evidence that would prove his innocence because he's a stupid little idiot who would rather be in death row than be embarrassed.
I don't usually care much for plot when it comes to novels (and movies) as long as the story is told well, but in this instance, because I was so annoyed by this boy's stupidity, I didn't enjoy it at all. Not to say that I don't give the writer proper credit for his writing style, because I do. This novel actually got the Booker Prize in 2003.
I remain unimpressed.
My rating: 1 out of 5
I bought this book from Jarir in February 2007.
Here are the books I've read so far.

ReplyDeleteOh, it's quite simple, really. The secret is this:
ReplyDeleteDO NOTHING ELSE.
:P
To be honest, I made it into a BSG game skill check. Whenever I read more than 50 pages a day, I pay myself SR 5. Coz reading just isn't as easy as we think it is.
