After getting approached three times (in person) about my apparently 'increasingly worrying' blog posts and tweets, I did a "No Complaints Week" on Twitter where, yes, I refrained from complaining or being all mopey and blue.

The experiment went well. I didn't complain, at least not outright complaints.

"Thank god for stupidface idiots. They make me look smarter."

"I'm glad you're not here. It proves how right I was / (still) am."

"Thank god I had a severe migraine attack last night instead of lower back pain."

"See that girl on the left? That's me, grinning. Winning."

It went well because it made me realize that I need a vacation from all of this. Possibly a permanent one. All of this blogging and oversharing and tweeting, and expecting feedback and then not appreciating feedback for what it's worth, and then overthinking everything, and then worrying about who reads me especially when people I know easily judge me for what I write, all of that.

I started blogging to practice my writing, to try out different styles, to make something out of nothing (when nothing much happens here so I have to find a way to make it sound interesting so people can at least enjoy the mundane parts of my life), to experiment and pressure what creativity I (didn't) have.

It's no longer that anymore. I've come to resent writing BECAUSE I know people (who know me) read it. And then I have this love-hate relationship with feedback, and with publicizing my shit.

It's not so much writing anymore that I do than it is passive aggression.

I don't presume to think that what I'm about to do is the right thing to do. But right now, it is.

I will continue to write, and I will continue to be grateful to those who have supported this blog in the 2 years I've been posting.

Thank you all for reading, for commenting, for everything.

This blog will be up for at least a week, after which I will be deleting it. I didn't want to just do that without letting you know. It's about time we let things go. And by we, I mean me. :)

You've all been lovely.

For what it's worth, your blog never fails to make me think and smile/laugh. It's one of my favorite places in the wwworld. It's sad that you're deleting it, but like I said, let me know when you start a new one! :)

    Happy 2011, druggie! :)

  5. If I may suggest, don't delete the whole blog.

You'll be destroying two years worth of credibility with the search engines. If you really, really have to, put it underground, make it private. Or remove the unkind/Legally risky posts.

In case after a year or two of going under, you might feel like writing for the public again, and you would have a strong base to restart from.

  6. You're one of few Saudi blogs I follow and comment on. There other ways to deal with what you described. Take a break, go to sleep. Don't delete your blog and give them what they want.. العذال i mean..

  9. Thanks for the comments, guys! I won't be deleting the blog anymore, after you've all talked some sense into me (or pandered to my ego, you know whatever :P). I've just temporarily moved to another account for a little while. I'll be back on this blog in future.

In the meantime, if you're interested, here:

and as for you mj, I might actually delete the blog just to read the headlines about a naked guy on the streets of Jeddah. Might I suggest Rawdah Street? :P Thanks for the support!
