#66 ~ Do What You Do

So I'm a little over-impulsive. So I do things without thinking them through, and I write emails that shouldn't have been sent, and I say things that probably shouldn't be said. Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. You end up hurting yourself, yes, but you almost always walk away from it with a little lesson learned, don't ya?

Like squash. I've never seen a squash court before in real life, except in a romantic comedy montage where Sandra Bullock's character finds herself falling in love with an unlikely dude. Again. And even then, I don't really see the court, or the sport being played. It's always just the two googly-eyed characters bumping into each other after trying to pick up the ball and their hands accidentally touch and then they somehow end up making out. This is not squash.

But because I have committed to this gym with my blood, sweat and money, and because Didi INSISTED we could TOTALLY play squash without prior training or experience, and because I am the Yes Man (well.. Woman), I was all, "FUCK YEAH LET'S PLAY SQUASH."

To prepare, we watched a couple of How To Play Squash videos on YouTube, in my case, a few minutes before I went in to play. An hour later, here we are.

I feel like an injured soldier; Menelik has just announced in his Adama voice that he is placing us in Sickbay, I think I left my right knee at the gym, and I'm not sure, but maybe my elbow has lost contact with my C.I.C.

I can't wait to go back tomorrow. COME ON, WALL, IS THAT ALL YOU GOT?

I'm beaten up and I almost got a black eye, but I burned a McDonald's meal's worth of calories and I feel like a pro. In fact, I challenge the whole world to a game of squash. Email me at mybackhandkicksass@overconfidence.com.

I bet even Cain's got nothing on me. Here's a photo of Menelik catching up. My favorite BSG episode EVAR.

And now, I have to go and like, die or something. *limp*

  1. Well done you!!! I spent many a weekend on the balcony of a squash court, watching my mum and dad battle it out. But the only times I'd set foot on one were to pick up the colouring pencils I'd dropped/thrown over! I'd love to follow in their footsteps and give it a go!

BTW, I LOOOOOOVE that email address! :D

  2. HAHAHA coloring pencils!! That's so hilarious!

I love this game. I've played tennis since I was a little girl, and I could never be good at it, so squash is where I overcompensate. We should play sometime, get you to cross it out of your bucket list. ;)

Also, I'M BRINGING THE BOOK TOMORROW. Your comment just reminded me. See ya! :D
